Hextor VIII is a tiny anthromorphic gecko who is somewhat of a mystery. The result of magical experimentation by the wizard Saetan Dagon Samael, he acts as both Sam's familiar and Scaled Cohort. Those that know him understand him to be a devastating swashbuckler and marksman.

Hextor is flamboyant, loud, and aggressive. He enjoys games of subterfuge and trickery, and loves combat.
Because of his baritone, manly voice, most people assume Hextor to be male. However, he has no genitalia in his natural form so it is hard to tell. He seems to be sexually attracted to males, but whether this means he is homosexual or heterosexual no one knows (though Hextor tends to identify himself as a male). His skin is green, and he stands at about 2'5". He only wears a hat, black boots, and a belt with his sword and crossbow.
Hextor was the result of one of Saetan's experiments on Scaled Ones (he succeeded seven not-so-lucky experiments, which is where he got his name from). When Saetan died, Hextor went off in search of his reincarnated power. He found Sam to be much more kind than his former master and quickly took to her. They traveled together for several weeks before she eventually gave him abilities as her familiar.
